"K-beauty is everywhere" is the story the category tells about itself. Our ladder data says something narrower: most Korean brands live on exactly one shelf and never leave it.

Of the 221 brands on our charts this week, 148 appear on a single channel — 67%. Another 29 reach two. The distribution collapses fast after that: 20 brands on three, eight on four, and only 16 brands in total reach five or more.

At the top, no brand reaches all 15 live channels. The widest reach on our charts is Anua at 11, followed by ROUND LAB, Beauty of Joseon and COSRX at nine.

Why one channel is a ceiling, not a starting line

It is tempting to read a single-channel brand as "early." Sometimes it is. But a channel is not a neutral pipe — each one has its own buyer, its own price expectation, and its own reason to stock you. A brand that ranks on YesStyle because K-beauty shoppers seek it out has proven something quite different from a brand that ranks on Walmart because a category buyer placed a bet.

Which is why the jump from one channel to two is the hardest number on this chart. It is the point where a brand stops being a channel's discovery and starts being a product with independent demand.

The metric this belongs to

We call the count Ladder Reach — how many of our tracked channels a brand appears on in a given week. It is deliberately crude, and it has a trap built in, which we would rather state than hide: channels are not equal-sized gates. Our sample depth runs from top 20 (Hwahae Global) to top 195 (YesStyle). Ranking in a top-20 sample is a much narrower needle than ranking in a top-195 one.

So "nine channels" and "five channels" are not two-versus-one in difficulty. The one comparison that is clean across the board is top-20 placements, which we publish for every brand on The Ladder.

What "reached" means. A brand counts as present on a channel if it appears in our weekly top-ranking sample for that channel — not that it is absent from the retailer's full catalogue. Many single-channel brands are purchasable in more places than our charts show. We measure visible competition, not availability.

What we'll watch next

Position is a photograph; movement is the story. From W30 the archive is deep enough to detect the week a brand adds its second channel — the exact rung where 148 brands are currently stuck. That is the alert we are building.

Receipt: every number above is checkable against the 2026-W29 archive · method on /methodology. Ladder Reach counts channels where a brand appears in our weekly top-ranking sample. Sample depth varies by channel (top 20 to top 195), so channel count is not comparable reach — cite depth alongside it. Rankings measure shelf position, not units sold.
